about Maggie Boogaart

The Maggie Miracle. That's what I call it: the Maggie Miracle! Double M, double the love! Maggie's teaching and classes are amazing. Once you attend Maggie's classes, you are touched by the magic of Maggie and the power of her energy. I have learned so much about dance, Martha Graham's contemporary technique, body placement, core strength, and breathing. The more present you are, the more you thirst to learn and improve according to the science of dance that Maggie imparts. Thank you.

One word resonated among my friends who came to see us dance Maggie and Ghislain's choreography of The Rite of Spring: energy. If there's one thing Maggie sought to express authentically and genuinely, it was the energy and strength conveyed through the dancers' bodies, the interplay between collective and individual energy. Participating in this choreography pushed me to overcome many limits, to develop strength, stamina, and movement expressiveness. I learned many things, such as performing lifts with my small arms, taking risks, dancing with others, and contributing to a collective energy. Applying my learning of the Graham technique in this choreography allowed me to better understand its richness and what it makes possible. Also, a word on the collaboration between Maggie and Ghislain, which allowed for the creation of beautiful contrasts in movements and rhythms within the choreography. This dialogue between classical and Graham contemporary is rich and creative! Hoping that The Rite continues, thank you for this generosity and dedication! Bravo for this beautiful creation!

Maggie Boogaart's classes are truly wonderful. The dedication, energy, and desire to teach are evident throughout the entire class. She is very attentive to each student and provides personal corrections (something that seems obvious but doesn't always happen). Another thing I like is that Maggie makes you understand things; she doesn't just want to teach us movements but makes us reflect on the origin and purpose of each movement, even if it's a simple 'plié'. I highly recommend the Graham technique classes and workshops.

A quick comment about floor barre class. I currently have tendonitis, so I can't dance... Maggie suggested I join her floor barre classes . She gently and carefully adapts the exercises to each person's requests, desires, and minor aches and pains. I have tendonitis, another person had back pain, someone else had trouble breathing... etc. Maggie put together a classes everyone's needs, like aPrivate lesson in a group setting! Maggie was very attentive and allowed me to work accurately by listening to my body. I left the classes great... as if she had healed me a little. I am delighted and I invite everyone to DARE to walk through the door of Maggie classes . DARE, DARE, DARE... COME, COME, COME... and you will return...

Maggie is a generous, sincere, and above all, humble person. She listens to us dancers and 'beings'. A wonderful person Martha Graham would be proud of!

Maggie helped me access the process and benefits of Graham technique as an athlete and a performer. I had taken Graham in the past, but it had never really resonated with me. In Maggie’s class, I finally discovered the brilliance of Graham technique and understood how it benefited my body. It still may not be my favorite way to dance, but I can now fully appreciate the beauty and faculty of the technique. Maggie is an inspirational teacher. She not only pushes her students to achieve, she creates in them a desire for perfection. Maggie’s classes clear my mind and awaken my soul. She is a truly gifted teacher and performer.

And God created Maggie! What would we do without such an amazing teacher? classes are technical! (one of the most comprehensive I know) and I love that! As she always says, Maggie prepares us for a career as solo dancers, not as part of the corps de ballet!!! Maggie is demanding but fair. These classes are classes for resting; we work the whole body without forgetting the mind, memory, and "soul." With Maggie, we become better (better dancers and better people). There is always joy, humor, sharing, and humanity in these classes. We work hard, but always in a pleasant atmosphere, and Maggie is very respectful of her students. Maggie is unique, and she makes you understand that you are too. (Little by little, you gain confidence, let go, transform yourself, and leave her classes only one desire: to return!) Maggie is a great teacher who pushes you to go beyond your limits! With the Graham technique, I discovered a dance that suits me, a dance that comes from the heart and soul, an organic dance where every movement seems to have something to say, every movement seems to tell a story.
So I have only one thing to say: if you've never taken a classes Maggie, GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Through her encouragement and incredible energy in sharing her teaching and love for dance, Maggie has rekindled my passion for a very demanding dance style. I adore her dynamic, creative, insightful, and humorous teaching approach, always attentive and respectful of the body, which pushes me to surpass myself with immense joy.

In the moment where I was about to quit dance, I met Maggie, and she was the one who introduced me with Graham technique. It was something new and amazing, I felt like dancing again. I took classes with Maggie in Paris for 2 years, I was also dancing in her wonderful choreographies ‘Passion’ and ‘Flammes de Paris’. Thank you Maggie for that great push forward, it is your fault that I am at the Martha Graham School of contemporary dance in NYC now ! I love it, but you will always stay my first Graham teacher!

I took classes from January 2010 to June 2012. At first, I came to live out my passion after having stopped dancing for a year. But in the classes , Maggie was very demanding and passed on her love of the Graham technique to me. I decided not only to continue dancing professionally, but also to attend the Graham School in NYC. Thanks to Maggie's advice, the many images she shared in classes her determination, I won a scholarship for the 2011 Summer Intensive after auditioning with the director of the Graham School. A year later, in September 2012, I joined the Graham School in New York (and then the junior company). Maggie brings her energy and enthusiasm to the studio every day and strives to rigorously share the incredible Graham technique. I am grateful to her and encourage many dancers to take her classes.

I really enjoyed all the classes this intensive workshop. It was very interesting, offering a different perspective on dance and a technique that opens doors to unexplored possibilities. Thank you for this intensive workshop and Ghislain! 🙂
